Sven Fennema is a self-taught photographer from Germany who is passionate with abandoned places. On his photographic trips he travels across Europe where he finds unique treasures to photograph. Whether if it’s a hidden castle, a rust-eaten industrial site or a former mental hospital, Fennema tells the stories of deserted places and buildings, stripped of their function. Detailed compositions, full of atmosphere, the absence of artificial light and resulting natural atmospheric lighting effects are the dominant elements that characterize his work.

Habitat tells stories of places that were once full of life. Whether ornate or plain, here you can find impressions of abandoned castles and palaces, but also modest houses.

Sven Fennema was born in Xanten, Germany (1981) and now lives in Düsseldorf. He is a self-taught photographer who entered into the world of photography back in 2007, and since 2009 he is working as self employed. He has taken part in numerous national and international exhibitions and publications (Books & Magazines, Cover, Events), while in 2010 he released his first photo book “Anderswelten – Ästhetik des Untergangs”.
