Not About Us is a sensitively composed student film effort in black and white by Swiss artist Michael Frei. A movie that has gone in many festivals which included screenings at Annecy, Hiroshima, Fantoche, DOK-Leipzig and the Krakow Film Festival. Not About is a clever play on light and darkness, positive and negative, a symbolism of the complex dance of reconsilation between a man and a woman. The short is a symbolic staging of the complex dance of rapprochement between a man and a woman. A black and white ballet where shadows and mirrored reflections play the role of doors.

The film invites us to think – do contrasts attract or not? If we have a counterpart in a parallel world, can we meet and become entwined in another world? Or are we supposed to maintain the universe in balance? The film is perfectly compact with minimalist sounds and music.

Michael Frei was born in 1987 in Appenzell, Switzerland and between 2002 and 2006 he worked as a draftsman. In 2008 and for the next four years he attended the animation department of HSLU University (Hochschule Luzern, Design & Kunst), while in 2010 he Exchange year at the Estonian Academy of Art in Tallinn. During this exchange year he produced the film Not About under the mentorship of filmmakers Priit and Olga Parn.
