Room 8 is a short film created by James W. Griffiths as part of the Bombay Sapphire Imagination series. Run in association with the Tribeca Film Festival, the competition invites filmmakers to take a limited script and introduce their own genre, locations, characters and imagination to bring the film to life. Room 8 is one of five handpicked films based on Oscar-winning screenwriter Geoffrey Fletcher’s script of any stage direction. Lying somewhere between a sci-fi and a thriller film, Room 8 is set in a prison and tells the story of a new prisoner, his fellow detainee and a mysterious red box. When he opens the box a series of incredible and surreal events happen that will give him a change to escape. But, is this true at the end? A brilliant, circular and superbly realised film.

Growing up in a small village in Herefordshire, James W. Griffiths spent his time writing, shooting, editing, animating and performing in short films. He began screening his work in the local night club and later he signed up to the National Film and Television School. Whilst there he won two awards at the Kodak Student Commercial competition and directed a film starring Ray Winstone. In 2011 his film ‘Splitscreen: A Love Story‘ gained international acclaim and was named 9th most creative video of 2011 by TIME Magazine. His following film, ‘We Were Wanderers on a Prehistoric Earth‘ made for Tourism Malaysia received similar acclaim and was nominated for a Webby Award. In 2012 he was selected for the prestigious Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors Showcase. In 2013 he joined Indy8 and completed his first film with the company, Room 8, a branded content short film for Bombay Sapphire premiering at Tribeca Film Festival. (independ.net)
